Things To Do In Indianapolis In The Fall


Indianapolis ColtsIndianapolis is nationally and internationally known for the Indy 500, one of the oldest automobile races in the world. And while the city will always be known for the Indy 500 and the Indianapolis Colts, it has a lot of other events to offer to visitors in the fall too. If you happen to be visiting the city in the month of October, there are several Halloween and autumn based events that you should not miss. Check out the things you can do in Indianapolis in the fall.


1. RUN(317) at Fountain Square


RUN(317) is the 5K run that is organized at the Fountain Square cultural district to honor businesses and charities. The 317 stands for 3.17 miles, the distance of the run. If you are 21 or above, you get to enjoy the post-race party swapped with food trucks, complimentary craft brews and live music. And yes, all the proceeds for the food trucks go to charity to keep the city of Indianapolis beautiful.


2. Red Bull Air Race


The popular Indianapolis Motor Speedway is not just reserved for automobile races but during fall the holy motorsport site hosts awesome aerial races. The place races offer you high-speed thrills of more than 250mph, impossible with car racing. Not only that you also get to visit the hangar and see planes close by, enjoy some of the best cuisines and beverages and see pilots preparing for the race. Children under the age of 15 get free admission.


3. RIP Reception and Ghost Stories


If you are not fearful of the deal then you can enjoy the RIP reception at the Crown Hill Cemetery. The event is marked with some bone-chilling ghost storytelling which is both fun and exciting. You get to talk with the storytellers before the ghost stories start at the historic Waiting Station building. The ticketed event also serves complimentary food and drinks.


4. GermanFest at Athenaeum


Indianapolis has an impact of German heritage on its culture and the city celebrates all things German during the GermanFest at Athenaeum. Other than obvious German food, beer, live music and dancing you get to have the most fun at family-friendly events like the OktoberFAST 5K run, wiener dog races along with competitive Strong Man competition and Durstig games. 

The Athenaeum is the former gymnasium clubhouse which was built in 1983. It is known for its Germanic style construction and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.


5. Cars and Coffee at Gateway Classic Cars


Indianapolis is known for its strong association with car lovers and if you are a car connoisseur, then you definitely won’t want to miss the Cars and Coffee at Gateway Classic Cars. The event organized every last Saturday of the month, it is here that you will meet like-minded classic car aficionados and get to see most exclusive classic cars over free coffee and doughnuts.
